Gary G. Carothers, M.D.

Dr. Gary Carothers is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who was raised in Central Michigan. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he received a B.A. in 1961. Following this, he attended the University of Cincinnati from 1961-1965 when he received his M.D. degree.

Following medical school, he had a rotating internship from 1965-1966 at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati Ohio, during which he rotated though Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Because of the Vietnam War, he was drafted into the Army Medical Corps. in 1965. He received a Berry Plan deferment in 1966 to complete a four year residency program in Ophthalmology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan which was completed in July 1970. During this time he also received a degree from The Kresge Eye Institute for advanced study.

Following his residency he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne and Special Forces at Womack Army Hospital at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He was assigned there with the rank of Major in the Medical Corps. as the commanding officer of the Department of Ophthalmology. This was the second busiest hospital in the Army.

Following discharge from the service, Dr. Carothers has been practicing general Ophthalmology in the Kenwood area. He has professional affiliations with The American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, and the Cincinnati Medical Association.
